Cops Kill Men
On The Day George Floyd Died, Police Across The US Shot And Killed At Least Five Other Men
Police in the US have not gone more than two days without fatally shooting someone since 2015.
“Justin was shot at least twice.
“His death started like so many other fatal encounters with the police: after a stop for a minor infraction. A BuzzFeed News review of police killings during the month of May found that 15 of them began with anything from a broken taillight to a call for police to break up an outdoor barbecue to a plea for help from a man who told the police he was starving.”
Ain’t That Something?
Here’s some footy of the giant star we orbit. 1 second = 1 hour, so it’s a total of ten years worth shown in an hour (is that right?).
Interview on the NY Times Story on Afghanistan Russian Bounties
I was interviewed on David Gornoski’s show about the latest scandal.
WSJ: NSA Says Russian Bounties Story is False
“The National Security Agency strongly dissented from other intelligence agencies’ assessment that Russia paid bounties for the killing of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, according to people familiar with the matter.
“The disclosure of the dissent by the NSA, which specializes in electronic eavesdropping, comes as the White House has played down the revelations, saying that the information wasn’t verified and that intelligence officials didn’t agree on it.
“Because of that, President Trump was never personally briefed on the threat, the White House said, although a key lawmaker said the information apparently was included in written intelligence materials prepared for Mr. Trump.
“The people familiar with the dissent by the NSA either declined or were unable to say why the agency differed from others—including the Central Intelligence Agency—about the strength of the intelligence showing operatives with Russia’s GRU intelligence agency paid bounties to the insurgent Taliban movement to kill Americans.”
Donald Trump Sticks Up For Woodrow Wilson
Of all the shameful things.
Wilson’s brutal racism is only one facet of his horrible legacy, which also includes the creation of the Federal Reserve and lying America into World War I, an act which was directly responsible for the rise of Nazism, Communism and the expansion of the British Empire by 1,000,000 square miles in the Middle East, and therefore World War II, the Cold War, the American world empire, the war on terrorism and all the rest.
Trump of course knows none of this. He’s just defensive of presidents accused of racism, even though Wilson was not only avowedly prejudiced, he implemented severe racial segregation in the federal services and resisted any effort to roll it back in the American south, under Jim Crow totalitarianism at the time.
If there’s a hell, he’s being tortured in it now and forever.
The Final Humiliation of H.R. McMaster
After committing war crimes in Iraq, failing _completely_ at fighting corruption in Afghanistan, and failing to convince Trump to attack North Korea, this pathetic perfumed prince of a political general gets taken out to the woodshed by Col. Andrew Bacevich, who ridicules the man nearly to death over his attacks against foreign policy “restrainers.”
“Just as President Trump is adamant in refusing to fess up to mistakes in responding to Covid-19 — ‘We’ve made every decision correctly’ — so too McMaster avoids reckoning with what actually happened when the never-retrench crowd was calling the shots in Washington and set out after 9/11 to transform the Greater Middle East.
“What gives the game away is McMaster’s apparent aversion to numbers. This is an essay devoid of stats. McMaster acknowledges the ‘visceral feelings of war weariness’ felt by more than a few Americans. Yet he refrains from exploring the source of such feelings. So he does not mention casualties — the number of Americans killed or wounded in our post-9/11 misadventures. He does not discuss how much those wars have cost, which, of course, spares him from considering how the trillions expended in Afghanistan and Iraq might have been better invested at home. He does not even reflect on the duration of those wars, which by itself suffices to reveal the epic failure of recent U.S. military policy. Instead, McMaster mocks what he calls the ‘new mantra’ of ‘ending endless wars.’”
