The point of different city transport agencies nationwide is to foster mobility. These MTAs run the local or regional transit service, and in some cases manage parking, taxis, roads, and other right-of-way issues. But many of them do a poor job. They manage transit services marred by misallocation and lack of innovation, helping explain why ridership has declined recently even as urban cores grow. But worse is that these MTAs, aiming to protect their fiefdoms, often stifle private competition that arises in response to these public failures. This double whammy perfectly describes the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA).”

Good News: Belmarsh Prison To Move Assange Out Of Solitary Confinement

Keeping Julian Assange in solitary confinement is torture – he is no threat to anyone.  His crime is exposing the world to the corruption and lies that governments use to hide their crimes of war and torture.  Their have been many reports that his health is deteriorating while he is being held in solitary confinement so this is good news.

Iraqis Protest U.S. Troop Presence

From CNN.  “Hundreds of thousands of protesters marched through Baghdad on Friday calling for US troops to leave Iraq, heeding the call of powerful Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr who called for a “Million Man March.”

The Telegraph is reporting that U.S. and British diplomats are working on a plan to reduce the number of troops in Iraq hoping this will appease the Shia coalition and reduce tensions.  We have been down this road before though – talk of troop withdrawal which never actually happens.  This time may be different.

While both Iran and the US have stepped back from all-out confrontation over Mr Soleimani’s killing, diplomats have not yet ruled out the prospect of further bloodshed.

They are particularly worried about the pro-Iranian Shia militants in Iraq, who have threatened to mount their own attacks on US troops and other American targets.

“No to America, and no to Iran. Iraq is for Iraqis,”
