US News

  • The Army is canceling the $45 billion contract to build a replacement for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The Army only got one bid on the contract. The Army plans to reexamine its requirements for the replacement and reoffer the contract. [Link]
  • The US sailed a warship through the Taiwan Strait. The US does this in a show of force to China. [Link]
  • A top US general says North Korea is working on new missiles. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • The Taliban are open to a ten-day ceasefire with the US. [Link]
  • The Taliban say the war will end when Americans leave Afghanistan. [Link]

Iran

  • Fresh claims that Iran is close to building a nuclear weapon are untrue. [Link]
  • The US sanctions an Iranian commander. [Link]

Middle East

  • At least 160 people have been injured during protests in Lebanon. Police are using teargas and water cannons against the protesters. [Link]
  • Iraqi security forces killed one protester on Friday. [Link]
  • Three Turkish soldiers were killed by a car bomb in northeast Syria. [Link]
  • The Houthi are accused of launching a missile against a camp in Yemen, killing at least 100 soldiers. [Link]

Africa

  • The summit on Libya in Berlin failed to reach a ceasefire agreement. Countries attending the meeting agreed to further block weapon transfers to Libya. The Libyan National Army has cut oil exports. [Link]
  • Al-Shabaab targeted Turkish contractors with a car bomb in Mogadishu. Fifteen people were injured in the attack. [Link]
