  • The US Envoy to Ukraine, Kurt Volker, resigns. [Link]

North Korea

  • North Korea blames the US for lack of progress in peace talks. [Link]
  • John Bolton says North Korea has no intention of giving up its nuclear weapons. [Link]

Middle East

  • Two candidates, Abdullah and Ghani, are claiming to have won the Afghan presidential election. [Link]
  • MbS’s personal bodyguard was shot dead. Saudi is saying it was over a personal issue. [Link]
  • Saudi Arabia’s leaders have sent a message to the Iranian president. [Link]
  • The Houthis unilaterally released 350 prisoners. Hundreds of Yemenis were released to their homes and three Saudis were also freed. [Link]

Africa 

  • Al-Shabaab attacked a US special forces base and an Italian troop convoy. No casualties were reported from either attack. [Link] The US says ten militants were killed by the US in response. [Link]
  • In Nigeria, the Islamic State attacked a military base. The militants killed and injured at least 18 soldiers and stole military equipment. [Link]
