  • Ukrainian shelling targeted Russia’s Belgorod region on Sunday, wounding three people, local authorities said. AWC
  • The EU on Monday announced that it approved a training mission for Ukrainian troops that will be held in Europe and a plan to provide Kyiv with $486 million to purchase weapons. AWC
  • The Belarusian Defense Ministry announced Sunday that nearly 9,000 Russian troops will be stationed in Belarus as part of a “regional grouping” to help protect the country’s borders. AWC

China

  • On Sunday, Chinese President Xi Jinping warned against “interference” from outside forces on the issue of Taiwan during a speech opening the 20th National Congress for China’s Communist Party. AWC
  • The Senate’s version of the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) will include $10 billion in military aid for Taiwan, Defense News reported on Monday. AWC

Middle East

  • National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Sunday said that President Biden will “methodically” re-evaluate relations with Saudi Arabia in the wake of OPEC’s decision to slash oil production by 2 million barrels per day. AWC
  • Fresh off Thursday’s bus bombing in Damascus, Syrian and Russian forces have launched a two-day offensive against ISIS in and around Daraa. AWC
