Ukraine

  • Moscow formally exited the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), and NATO announced it has suspended its participation in the agreement. The Cold War-era pact limited deployments of weaponry in Europe. The treaty has been on life support for over a decade as the North Atlantic alliance violated the agreement, and Russia suspended its participation in 2007. The Institute
  • President Volodymyr Zelensky explained that he is opposed to holding elections in 2024. The Ukrainian leader claimed his government would be unable to hold elections due to the ongoing war. The Institute 
  • A top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said the West needs to keep backing Ukraine’s war with Russia and hit back at comments made by Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni about growing war fatigue. AWC

Israel

  • The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that the Biden administration is planning a $320 million transfer of precision-guided bomb kits to Israel, a show of support for the Israeli onslaught despite the growing civilian death toll. AWC
  • The White House acknowledged on Monday that the US-backed Israeli onslaught on Gaza has killed “many, many thousands of innocent people” as the Biden administration continues unconditional support for Israel’s war. AWC
  • The US has nothing to show for its calls for a temporary “pause” in Israel’s onslaught on Gaza as the Israeli military says it’s cut off north Gaza from the south and a new phase of heavy ground fighting is expected. AWC
  • State Department staffers have slammed President Biden’s full-throated support for Israel’s bombardment of Gaza in a dissent memo. AWC
  • President Biden asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to agree to pause Israel’s assault on Gaza for three days to allow progress in Hamas releasing hostages, Axios reported on Tuesday. AWC
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu envisions Israel taking “overall security responsibility” for the Gaza Strip indefinitely if the Israeli war to destroy Hamas is successful, the Israeli leader said in an interview with ABC News that aired late Monday. AWC
  • Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that an Israeli minister’s comments about nuking Gaza raised questions about Israel’s unofficial nuclear arsenal. AWC

Middle East

  • More drones and rockets were fired at US bases in Iraq and Syria on Sunday and Monday, bringing the total number of attacks on US troops since October 17 to 38. AWC
  • The US military announced on Sunday that a US nuclear-powered submarine was in the Middle East in the latest provocation aimed at warning regional actors against attacking Israel or US forces. AWC
