US News

  • The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) is urging all of its members in the House of Representatives to vote “yes” on a Syria War Powers Resolution introduced by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) scheduled to be voted on Wednesday. The resolution would direct President Biden to withdraw all US troops from Syria within 180 days. AWC

  •  The Pentagon is blocking the Biden administration from sharing evidence of alleged Russian war crimes with the International Criminal Court based in the Hague over concerns that a precedent could be set for Americans to be prosecuted for their military actions, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.   • Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Monday that he was prepared to introduce legislation to “set the stage” for US military intervention in Mexico. AWC

  • NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Wednesday that the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut might fall to Russian forces in the “coming days” as the Russian mercenary outfit Wagner Group claimed more gains in the battle. AWC
  • American Guided Bombs Are ‘Operational’ in Ukraine. The Institute 
  • The New York Times reported Tuesday that US officials are claiming the Nord Stream bombings were carried out by a “pro-Ukrainian group” and dismissed reporting from investigative journalist Seymour Hersh that said President Biden ordered the sabotage. AWC
  • A Hungarian parliamentary delegation visited Sweden on Tuesday and expressed support for the country’s NATO bid but also told Swedish officials to stop telling “lies” about Hungary. AWC

China

  • China’s new foreign minister on Tuesday warned Beijing and Washington are headed for “conflict and confrontation” if the US doesn’t change course on its military buildup in the Asia Pacific and other policies aimed at China. AWC
  • As the US and South Korea prepare for massive war games next week, North Korea is forewarning nuclear war on the peninsula. In a fiery statement, Pyongyang declared the chances of nuclear conflict are “realistic“ given the “irresponsible deeds of the US and South Korea.” The Institute 
  • The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said it was “gravely concerned” over reports that Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen plans to visit the US and meet with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in California. AWC

Middle East

  • Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made an unannounced visit to Iraq on Tuesday and said that the US is committed to maintaining its military presence in the country. AWC
  • An Israeli airstrike that hit the Aleppo International Airport in Syria has halted aid flights into the city that are needed for earthquake relief, a Syrian official told AFP. AWC
  • A UN official for Syria has condemned an Israeli airstrike on Syria’s Aleppo International Airport, which put the airport out of service and halted aid flights into the city that had been arriving for earthquake relief. AWC
