Ukraine

  • Volodymyr Zelensky wins Ukraine’s presidential election. [Link]

Sri Lanka

  • At least 207 people have died from several bombing around Sri Lanka. The bombings targeted Christians attending services on Easter. Several of the dead were Americans. The government had prior warning of an attack.  [Link]
  • The death toll from the bombing has increased to 290 with over 500 injured. The government has arrested dozens of people believed to be connected to the attack. [Link]

Libya

  • Drones are being used to carry out airstrikes in support of Field Marshal Haftar’s assault on Tripoli. It is believed the drones are Chinese made and operated by the UAE. [Link]
  • Over 200 people – including 18 civilians – have been killed in the first two weeks in the battle for Tripoli. [Link]
  • Paul Taylor explains the French support for Haftar in Libya. France believes Haftar can stabilize Libya and help prevent the flow of arms to militants in the Sahel. A French official says the support is at the request of Saudi, UAE, and Egypt. [Link]

Mali

  • An anti-jihadists militia in Mali massacred 160 people from an ethnic group that has given some support to jihadists. The Mali government has been unable to apprehend those responsible for the massacre. [Link]
  • Mali’s Prime Minister, Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga, and his government resign because of their inability to hold militias accountable for a massacre. [Link]
  • Militants overran a military base in west-central Mali killing 12 soldiers. [Link]
