US News

  • The CDC issued new guidance calling for vaccinated Americans to wear masks in some circumstances and that all students and staff wear masks at school. [Link]
  • Tech companies plan to create a database to identify and deplatform extremist content. Other tech companies, like Paypal, will begin working with the ADL to identify people to remove from the platform. [Link]
  • Two Colorado police officers were arrested for brutalizing a man. One officer pistol-whipped, beat, and threatened to kill a man while the other officer watched. [Link]
  • Biden says Russia is attempting to interfere in the 2022 election. [Link]
  • Biden says the US could end up in a shooting war as a result of a cyberattack on the US. [Link]

Haiti

  • A top security official for the assassinated Haitian president has been arrested for suspicion of being involved in the plot. [Link]

China

  • The Pentagon reports it is concerned about China building new nuclear weapons silos. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • The US has carried out about a dozen airstrikes against the Taliban in the past week. CENTCOM expects the increased pace of bombings to continue. [Link]

Africa

  • Fifty-seven people died off the coast of Libya attempting to cross to Europe. [Link]
  • The Ethiopian and Somali governments report militants from Ethiopia’s Afar region killed hundreds of people in Ethiopia’s Somali region. [Link]
  • Armed men on motorbikes killed 14 people during a raid on a village in Niger. [Link]
