  • The US sanctions several Venezuelans and Venezuelan companies it accuses of corruption. The sanctions targeted a food subsidy program it alleges is used by the Maduro family for profit. [Link]

Middle East

  • Two US soldiers were killed in Afghanistan. [Link]
  • The death toll has increased to 20 in the Kabul bomb blast that injured a vice presidential candidate. [Link]
  • The UK will escort its flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz. [Link]
  • One Palestinian was killed in Gaza by the Israeli military during weekly protests. Forty others were injured. [Link]
  • The Senate Foreign Relations Committee passes a bill that could sanction Saudi over the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. [Link]
  • The Syrian Army made some progress against al-Qaeda linked rebels in northern Hama. [Link]

Turkey

  • Senator Graham says Trump had him tell Turkey that Turkey will not face sanctions if it does not activate the S-400. [Link]
  • Turkish President Erdogan threatens to go elsewhere for fighter jets if Turkey is unable to buy the F-35. [Link]
  • Turkey reports killing 34 PKK fighters in northern Iraq over three days in the middle of July. [Link]

Sudan

  • Five protesters were killed in Sudan. Four of the dead were schoolchildren. [Link]
