US News

  • Trump tweets that universal mail-in voting will create mass voter fraud. He added, “Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???” [Link]
  • Twitter says the Bitcoin scam hack was carried out after a spear-phishing attack against Twitter employees. [Link]
  • The Trump administration will deploy federal police to Cleveland, Detroit, and Milwaukee. [Link]
  • Video surfaces of Oregon police beating a handcuffed man in a jail cell. After the prisoner attempted to get the police’s attention again, the police entered the cell and chained him to a metal grate on the floor. While he was chained to the grate, he was forced to lay in urine. [Link]

Russia

  • Secretary of State Pompeo testified to a Senate committee. Senators pushed him on Trump’s decision to withdraw 12,000 troops from Germany. Pompeo said Trump had been tougher on any other president towards Russia and a 2018 airstrike in Syria killed 300 Russians. [Link]
  • Russian fighter jets intercepted two American spy planes over the Black Sea. American spy flights near Russia have been intercepted four times in the past week. [Link]
  • The EU imposes sanctions on Russian, Chinese, and North Korean firms for alleged cyber hacks. [Link]

Pakistan/Afghanistan

  • An American was gunned down in a Pakistani courtroom. The American was on trial for blasphemy. [Link]
  • Afghan officials report Pakistani artillery fire killed 15 civilians. [Link]
  • The Taliban announced they have completed their portion of the prisoner released outlined in the peace agreement with the US. The Afghan government still needs to release about 600 Taliban detainees. [Link]
  • Eighteen people were killed by a bombing in Afghanistan on Thursday. A three-day ceasefire starts on Friday. [Link]

Syria

  • The US issued new sanctions against Syria and threatened to sanction anyone doing business with Syria. [Link]

Africa

  • Egypt is buying Su-35 fighter jets from Russia. The US has threatened sanctions against Egypt for buying advanced Russian planes. [Link]
  • A US airstrike in Somalia killed three children. [Link]
  • Violence is on the rise in Sudan’s Darfur region. Sixty people died in an attack last week. The violence is depriving 14,000 children of needed medical care. [Link]
