US News

  • MIT and Harvard file a lawsuit against a Trump decision to bar foreign students from remaining in the US if they are only taking online classes. [Link]
  • The California prison system moved prisoners with coronavirus to the San Quentin Prison. A third of the prisoners contracted the virus, and six died. [Link]
  • The Supreme Court blocks Electoral College electors from not complying with the vote in the state. [Link]
  • US weapons makers are pressing for bailout money. [Link]
  • Several members of Congress are pushing to add billions in new military spending to combat China. [Link]
  • Deutsche Bank was hit with a $150 million penalty for its relationship with Jeffery Epstein. The complaint alleges the bank was used by Epstein for his sex trafficking ring. [Link]
  • The US and China announced visa restrictions against each others’ citizens over disputes about Tibet. [Link]

Afghanistan 

  • Three Afghan soldiers were killed by a Taliban suicide bomber. [Link]
  • The Taliban gave the Afghan government a new list of 600 prisoners to be released after the Afghan government refused to release prisoners on the first list. The Afghan government says it will resume with the prisoner release. If all prisoners from the list are released, both sides have signaled that they would be ready to engage in talks. [Link]

Middle East

  • Israel was behind the sabotage of an Iranian nuclear energy facility. [Link]
  • The US CENTCOM commander says he is confident that Iraq will ask US soldiers to remain during talks planned for this summer. [Link]

Africa

  • Two police were killed by a roadside bomb near Somalia’s capital. [Link]
  • At least 239 people have died in a week of protests in Ethiopia. [Link]
