Afghanistan

  • Polling shows Americans are supportive of Biden’s decision to leave Afghanistan. [Link]
  • The US used three helicopters to airlift 169 Americans from a hotel outside of the Kabul Airport. [Link]
  • UK officials report seven people were crushed to death outside the Kabul Airport. [Link]
  • The Pentagon is using 18 civilian planes from 18 airlines to fly Afghan refugees. The planes will not be used in Afghanistan. [Link]
  • The Taliban say they have recaptured three districts that had fallen into the hands of opposition fighters. [Link]

Middle East

  • Israeli snipers opened fire on protesters in Gaza. Several children were shot and two are in critical condition. An Israeli sniper firing on the protesters was injured by a Palestinian gunman. In response to the sniper being shot Israel bombed Gaza. [Link]
  • Egypt announced it would close its border crossing with Gaza. [Link]
  • A US fighter jet shoots down a drone over Syria. [Link]
  • At least 10 Houthi fighters were killed by Saudi airstrikes. [Link]
  • The Saudi-backed government of Yemen has engaged in massive money printing. The Houthis are not allowing newly printed bills to be used in their territory. The value of Yemeni currency has fallen significantly more in the Saudi-backed government-controlled areas. [Link]

Africa

  • Gunmen kidnap 75 people in Nigeria. [Link]
  • Chad will remove half of the 1,200 troops it has deployed to the Sahel. It said the troops would be deployed elsewhere. [Link]
