US News

  • Senator Rand Paul introduces a bill that will have federal education money follow the student and not directly fund public schools. [Link]
  • Additional police bodycam footage of George Floyd’s arrest was leaked. The video is of the minutes leading up to the police crushing Floyd to death. [Link]
  • New York will set up checkpoints around the city to enforce a mandatory quarantine for people out of state. You could be fined $10,000 for violating the quarantine.[Link]

Foreign Policy 

  • Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US and Russia made progress in arms control talks. However, Pompeo said he continues to hope China will join negotiations. China’s involvement is a poison pill as its nuclear arsenal is significantly smaller than the US or Russia’s nuclear arsenal. [Link]
  • The US is pushing for the UN to hold a vote on extending the arms embargo on Iran. The vote is likely to fail. [Link]
  • The US sanctioned an adviser to Zimbabwe’s president. [Link]

China

  • US intelligence and military officers are paranoid that a direct hotline to China will be abused to deceive the US. [Link]
  • The US sends its highest-level official to Taiwan in decades. [Link]

Lebanon

  • Rania Khalek and Jamal Ghosn report on the aftermath of the bombing in Beirut. [Link]

Kashmir

  • India has kept a tight lockdown in Kashmir as the region marks one year since New Delhi announced it had stripped away Kashmir’s autonomy. [Link]
