US News

  • The US sanctions three people and 16 groups in Venezuela. The sanctions allegedly target people and groups stealing from food aid. [Link]
  • Colombia is being pushed by the US to destroy more coca plants. Destroying the coca plants is a dangerous job. At least nine people have been killed and 50 injured. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • Forty-eight people were killed in two Taliban attack in Kabul. One attack targeted an election rally by Afghan’s president. [Link]

Middle East

  • Senator Graham criticized Trump on Twitter for not taking a more aggressive response to Iran’s alleged attack on a Saudi oil facility. Trump told Lindsey Graham his inaction was a sign of strength. [Link]
  • Caitlin Johnstone argues the US is losing the propaganda battle for war with Iran. [Link]
  • Iran is producing an increasing percentage of its own food. However, US sanctions and limited water supply are hurting the Iranian peoples’ food security. [Link]

Nigeria 

  • The Nigerian military has withdrawn to larger, more easily defended bases. The new strategy has allowed Islamists militants to seize more territory. The Islamists seizing new towns has cut off over 100,000 people from humanitarian aid. [Link]
