US News

  • Trump places travel sanctions on several members of the Castro family for supporting Maduro. [Link]
  • Russia summoned the US ambassador because the US did not grant visas to ten members of the Russian UN delegation. The UN General Assembly meeting is held in New York, and the US is expected to give visas to attendees. [Link]

Catalonia 

  • Pompeo says working-level talks with North Korea will not start in September. [Link]

Middle East

  • The IAEA confirms Iran is installing advanced centrifuges. Iran agreed to take the centrifuges offline in the JCPOA. The US withdrew from the agreement last year. [Link]
  • The US will send four radars, a Patriot Missile battery, and 200 support troops to Saudi Arabia. [Link]
  • The US sanctions a company it allegedly provided jet fuel to Russia in Syria. [Link]
  • Pompeo says Assad used chemical weapons against rebels in Idlib on May 19th. The US has alleged Assad used chemical weapons several times and the allegations have been debunked. [Link]

Egypt

  • Trump gives strong backing to Egyptian President Sisi. [Link]
  • Egypt had arrested at least 1,900 people protesting Sisi. [Link]
