Hamas confirmed that one of its senior commanders in Gaza was killed by an Israeli strike.
Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan said that local al-Qassam Brigades commander Muhammad al-Hawli was killed in Deir al-Balah on Thursday. The Palestinian group said the attack was a violation of the ceasefire.
In October, Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire and hostage exchange. The Gaza Government Media Office reports Israel has violated the truce more than 1,200 times. In more than 400 cases, the Israeli attack directly targeted civilians. Nearly 450 Palestinians have been killed during the ceasefire, including over 100 children.
The strike that killed Hawli also killed his wife, daughter, a 16-year-old, and two other people.
Additionally, Israel has restricted aid deliveries into Gaza. Under the ceasefire agreement, Israel agreed to allow 600 aid trucks into Gaza each day. The Gaza Media Office reports the average number of aid deliveries is 250 daily.
The lack of goods entering the Strip has caused the humanitarian crisis to continue. Several Palestinian children have died from the harsh weather in Gaza combined with shortages of food, shelter, and access to health care.
Despite the rampant Israeli violations of the agreement, President Donald Trump announced the peace plan had advanced into phase two on Wednesday.
