Iranian state media reported speaking with officials who said Tehran has rejected a 15-point peace proposal to end the war in the Middle East. On Monday, President Donald Trump said the US talks with Iran were progressing, and Washington sent Tehran a peace proposal via Pakistan.
On Saturday, Trump gave Iran a 48-hour deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or the US would strike Iranian power plants. On Monday, the President walked back that threat in a post on Truth Social. Trump said he delayed the deadline by five days because of productive talks between the US and Iran.
Tehran quickly denied that any discussion with the Americans was ongoing. Iranian officials said they received a message from the US through Pakistan. On Tuesday, it was reported that the US proposed that Turkey mediate talks between Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
The New York Times reported speaking with people familiar with the matter who said the message sent to Iran via Pakistan included a 15-point peace proposal. The details of the plan have not been released.
On Wednesday, Iranian media reported that Tehran had rejected the American proposal and restated its conditions for ending the conflict.
- Iran demands an end to aggression by the enemy
- Iran demands the establishment of concrete guarantees preventing the recurrence of war
- Iran demands clear determination, guaranteed payment of war damages, and compensation
- Iran demands a comprehensive end to the war across all fronts, incl. against all resistance groups
- Iran demands recognition of Tehran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz as its natural, legal right
An Iranian official added that Tehran will not allow President Trump to dictate the timing of the conflict’s end.
