President Donald Trump warned about the growing nuclear arsenal of China and directed the Department to start nuclear weapons tests.
“The United States has more Nuclear Weapons than any other country. This was accomplished, including a complete update and renovation of existing weapons, during my First Term in office,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday. “Russia is second, and China is a distant third, but will be even within 5 years. Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately.”
The post was published about an hour before Trump met with Chinese President Xi. Both leaders described the summit as positive. However, the two sides did not come to an agreement to significantly roll back the trade war.
Trump said that China agreed to put a hold on its new controls on rare earth minerals for one year, and Washington reduced fentanyl-related tariffs from 20% to 10%.
“President Xi noted that under our joint guidance, China-US relations have remained stable on the whole. China and the United States should be partners and friends. This is what history has taught us and what reality needs,” a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry said. “Given our different national conditions, we do not always see eye to eye with each other and it is normal for the two leading economies of the world to have frictions now and then.”
It added, “I am ready to continue working with you to build a solid foundation for China-U.S. relations and create a sound atmosphere for the development of both countries.”
Trump wrote on Truth Social following the meeting, “I had a truly great meeting with President Xi of China. There is enormous respect between our two Countries, and that will only be enhanced with what just took place. We agreed on many things, with others, even of high importance, being very close to resolved.”
