Thomas Massie for Congress, the fundraising committee behind the seven-term Republican congressman’s re-election campaign, recently announced that the Kentucky libertarian raised $584,325 during the second quarter of 2025. The group reported that 68% of donations came from first-time donors, with the average donation totaling $98. Thus far, Massie has raised $1.7 million for his 2026 re-election efforts.
The committee’s announcement comes on the heels of President Donald Trump’s threat to primary Massie. In June, Axios reported the launch of MAGA Kentucky, a super PAC founded by former Trump campaign manager Chris LaCivita and pollster Tony Fabrizio. According to LaCivita, the PAC will spend “whatever it takes” to unseat Massie in the May 2026 primary election.
“Massie’s longtime opposition to President Trump’s working family tax cuts – and really anything to do with President Trump – is coming to an end,” LaCivita said. “Thomas ‘Little Boy’ Massie will be fired.”
“Any serious person considering running should spend money on an independent poll before letting swampy consultants take them for an embarrassing ride,” Massie responded.
Last week, MAGA Kentucky announced that it would spend $800,000 on a television commercial attacking Massie. The ad accuses Massie of voting against “President Trump’s tax cuts,” “finishing President Trump’s wall,” and “Trump’s ban on taxpayer-funded sex changes for minors.” It concludes with a clip of Trump saying Massie “should be voted out of office.”
Back in March, Trump denounced Massie for voting against a GOP-backed continuing resolution. He vowed to “lead the charge against [Massie],” whom he compared to former U.S. Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY). Since then, Team Trump’s war on Massie has only escalated, as the congressman opposed Trump’s airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities and voted against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Last month, MAGA Kentucky launched an ad accusing Massie of siding with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in opposing Operation Midnight Hammer. Massie called the June 21 military strikes, which targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities, unconstitutional.
In June, Politico reported that the White House is encouraging State Senator Aaron Reed to launch a primary challenge against Massie. Reed has previously described Massie as “one of America’s greatest congressmen.”
