President Donald Trump told reporters that the US transferred weapons to an Iranian group. The White House intended for the arms to help overthrow the government in Tehran. However, Trump claims the group kept the weapons for themselves.
“We sent some guns. A lot of guns. They were supposed to go to the [Iranian] people so they can fight back against these thugs.” The President told reporters on Monday. “The people that they sent the [arms] to kept them. They said, ‘What a beautiful gun. I think I’ll keep it.’ So I’m very upset with a certain group of people, and they will pay a big price for that.”

Trump did not specify which Iranian faction received the American weapons. He also claimed that he had predicted to members of his administration that the scheme would fail because the weapons would be stolen.
The plan to send arms to the Iranian people was a plot to quickly overthrow their government. “The Iranian people will fight back as soon as they know they will not get shot, and as soon as they can get weapons.” He continued, “If they had weapons, not many of them, Iran would give up in a few seconds.”
Trump’s public admission that the US sent arms to Iran in a failed regime change effort exposes that the White House is now lying when it claims that installing a new government in Tehran was not a goal of the war.
In his remarks, the President also asserted that the Iranian people want the US to continue to drop bombs on their country. “The Iranian people, when they don’t hear bombs go off, are upset,” he said.
