UN Says Two-Month Yemen Ceasefire Agreed Upon, Saudis Will Ease Blockade

As Ramadan gets started, the UN announced a surprise breakthrough on the ceasefire in Yemen, which appeared unlikely until today. They now say both sides have agreed to a full two-month ceasefire, beginning Saturday. This will be the first nationwide truce in Yemen in years, and gives the war-weary population a nice break. UN officials say the truce is negotiated so it could be voluntarily extended easily. The UN started with a ceasefire meant for just the month of Ramadan, but the Houthis were resisting when it didn’t include any easing of the naval blockade. Exact terms aren’t public...

Yemen Update: Saudi Strike Obliterates Home, Kills 10 Civilians

Saudi Arabia has carried out another airstrike in the northern Hajjah Province of Yemen over the weekend, destroying a house in Washhah District, and killing at least 10 civilians within, according to the Yemeni news agency. As is often the case with such strikes, all the casualties were civilians, and women and children were reportedly among the slain. There was no indication why this site was attacked in the first place, and the Saudis have yet to comment. This lack of transparency from the Saudis is also par for the course, with Saudis not commenting on their own attacks, but...

Up to 150 Saudi Royals Infected With Coronavirus: Report

I don't have much sympathy for them given all the death and disease they have caused in Yemen. The infections are supposedly a key element in the Saudi decision to announce a ceasefire in Yemen, where Riyadh has been battling Iran-backed Houthi rebels on behalf of the country's deposed president since 2015. According to The New York Times, as many as 150 Saudi royals are believed to have contracted the virus, including members of the lesser branches of the extensive family. The Times cited a person close to the family as giving the information. Newsweek has contacted the Saudi government...

Substantive Due Process
