US News

  • The White House announces it will more aid to Haitian police. Reuters

Russia

  • US officials have ruled out pushing Ukraine to negotiate with Russia even though they don’t think either side can win the war “outright,” The Washington Post reported on Tuesday. AWC
  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday said that Moscow was open to talks with Western powers as Turkey is looking to broker negotiations. AWC
  • Both the Group of Seven (G7) and NATO vowed on Tuesday to continue supporting Ukraine in the wake of a Russian missile barrage across Ukraine that marked an escalation in the war. AWC
  • President Biden told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview that aired Tuesday night that he has no “intention” of meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin or negotiating with Russia over Ukraine. AWC
  • The White House said Tuesday that the US is speeding up the shipment of an air defense system to Ukraine after Russia launched a major barrage of missile strikes on infrastructure across the country. AWC
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday offered to ship gas to Europe through an undamaged line in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, an idea that was quickly rejected by Germany. AWC
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday asked international donors for an additional $55 billion in aid to cover Ukraine’s budget deficit and fund reconstruction projects. AWC
  • Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Wednesday predicted that Ukraine will be on the offensive throughout the winter and vowed the US would continue supporting Ukraine with weapons in the “difficult weeks, months, and years ahead.” AWC
  • NATO is developing a 10-year plan to rebuild Ukraine’s military and arms industry with a focus on shifting the country from using Soviet equipment to primarily using NATO weapons, Politico reported on Wednesday. AWC
  • NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg says the chance that that alliance would use nukes over the war in Ukraine is “extremely remote.” NATO is set to kick of annual nuclear war games next week. DW
  • The United Nations has voted to condemn Russia’s annexation of four regions in eastern Ukraine, denouncing the move as an illegal land grab while questioning the results of referendums held in those territories last month. The Institute

  • The Biden administration on Wednesday released its long-awaited National Security Strategy that identifies China as Washington’s “most consequential geopolitical challenge.” AWC

Iran

  • The latest IAEA media leaks on an Iran report, which are not strictly on a new report but rather on a slightly updated one, are again accusing Iran of expanding their uranium enrichment program. AWC
