Inflation Can Become A Political Bitch

2021 10 22 12 56

"But inflation becomes a political bitch. People – those who work for a living – hate it when they lose purchasing power, and they hate it when their raise gets eaten up by inflation, and they hate it when their dividends and interest income get eaten up by inflation. Putin understands this. Among US policy makers, this understanding has not yet fully sunk in, though they’re signs that it is slowly spreading."   More here at Wolf Street...

And Just Like That, The Culture Changed

I’ve heard some people compare the existence of the TSA (I used this erroneously for a while) to mask wearing, social distancing and lock downs as proof that the people will accept changes that are clearly theater and inconveniences when they are in fear. The problem with that is the average person may only fly once or twice a year. These are “periodic” inconveniences. People like myself who fly often just get TSA pre-check or CLEAR to avoid the indignity of having to deal with the McDonald’s workers “employed” to keep the skies “safe.” But masks, social distancing and lock downs are...

Is Trump’s Afghan “Peace Agreement” Working?

On FPF #488, I discuss the US-Taliban "peace agreement." The agreement has brought a reduction in violence between the US and the Taliban. Overall the violence between the Taliban and US-supported Afghan government rages. In the first three months of the year, Taliban attacks are up, and the Afghan government is killing children at twice the rate of the Taliban. However, there are some positive signs. The two men claiming the title of Afghanistan's president are close to making a deal to unify the two governments.

4/10/20 Tom Woods on the Government’s Coronavirus Incompetence

Tom Woods gives his thoughts on the government response to the coronavirus and the economic fallout that is likely to come afterward. Scott and Woods discuss the bizarre division along political lines of opinions about the severity of the virus, the proper response, and even the effectiveness of possible treatments. Both agree that Americans need to know the metrics by which they will be allowed to leave their homes and go back to work. Making a new, vague announcement about the shutdown every two weeks simply won't cut it. Tom Woods is the host of the Tom Woods Show and the author of...

Scott interviews Tommy Salmons about what life is like for truck drivers these days. Salmons describes dealing with longer hours, different routes and products, deserted truck stops and empty roads. Is the US Going to War with Venezuela During the Covid Pandemic guest Will Porter

Will Porter returns to FPF to discuss the aggressive actions Trump has taken towards Venezuela in recent weeks. The US indicted Maduro then offered a $15 million reward for his arrest. Similar actions were taken in 1989 before the US military invaded Panama and captured the country's leader. The US has offered a "new" proposal to drop sanctions once Venezuela's president Maduro resigns. However, Maduro will not step down and turn the country over to his opposition as the US demands. Now, in the name of fighting the drug war, Trump deployed several warships and anti-drug ships off of...

3/27/20 Charlie Davis on Skateboarding Culture in the West Bank

Charlie Davis talks about his project, Skate Palestine, which is trying to spread the sport of skateboarding to Palestinians in the West Bank. He says that Palestinians, already perceived by the state of Israel as outsiders in their own homeland, are in some ways perfectly suited to skateboarding culture, which historically has also attracted outsiders and misfits. He even hopes that skateboarding can provide an opportunity for Israeli and Palestinian youth to meet on neutral terms and build friendships over a shared interest. This episode of the Scott Horton Show is sponsored by: NoDev...

‘They Dumped Him Like Trash’: Palestinian With Suspected Coronavirus Symptoms Thrown Out of Israel

From Middle Easy Eye: It was like a scene straight out of a horror film. That's how 25-year-old Ibrahim Abu Safiya described the moment he saw someone lying on the ground near an Israeli checkpoint on the outskirts of Beit Sira village, west of Ramallah. "We approached the man lying on the ground, and he looked terribly ill," Abu Safiya told Middle East Eye. "He had an extremely high fever. He could barely move his body and he was struggling to breathe," Abu Safiya said. The man lying on the ground was a Palestinian labourer who works in Israel. He told Abu Safiya that he had been showing...

US Marines Arrive on Yemen’s Island of Socotra to Back UAE: US installs Patriot missiles on UAE-occupied island

Screen Shot 2020 03 09 At 11.18.43 Pm

It’s not clear what US intentions are, but a group of US Marines arrived at the Yemeni island of Socotra over the weekend, meeting with the occupying United Arab Emirates forces, and installing Patriot missile systems there. The US hasn’t announced why they are back on Socotra, an island strategically located near the mouth of the Gulf of Aden. The UAE has been seen as wanting to keep the island after the Yemen War for a base, and there is speculation that the US has designs on a base as well. The UAE will reportedly “lease” the island for a period of 95 years. There has been no major...

The Brief Case for Pacifism – Bryan Caplan, Ph.D.

Why We Should Study China

I would posit that there is no civilization so utterly foreign to Americans than China. Often, American impressions of China are informed by preconceptions, myth, and fear of the other. For the average American, the sum of all knowledge about China is derived...
