Correction: Islamic State Population Size

Thanks to John in the Reddit room for the heads up.

I said on Tom Woods’ show that the Islamic State, which controlled eastern Syria and western Iraq from June 2014-December 2017, was the size and population
of Great Britain, but that’s wrong. It was the size of the UK, but had a
population of only six million.

I thought I was paraphrasing Patrick Cockburn, but this is what he really said:

“As the attention of the world focused on Ukraine and Gaza, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) captured a third of Syria in addition to the quarter of Iraq it had seized in June. The frontiers of the new Caliphate declared by Isis on 29 June are expanding by the day and now cover an area larger than Great Britain and inhabited by at least six million people, a population larger than that of Denmark, Finland or Ireland.”

Is Israel Guilty of War Crimes in Lebanon?

Is Israel Guilty of War Crimes in Lebanon?

The Sabra and Shatila massacre in Lebanon was the brutal murder of many Palestinians committed by a Christian group (that Israel was allied with).  Is Israel responsible?

Some blame Ariel Sharon, Israel’s Defense Secretary at the time, because he was directly supervising the Christian group.  In addition, Israel trained, armed, fed, and funded the killers.  Others defend Israel’s actions by saying Israeli Defense Forces did not directly commit the actual crimes.  Well, how much were they involved and how much did Sharon know?  You don’t want to miss this!

After a 2 Year Court Battle, Man Gets His $52,560 Back from State Thieves

After a 2 year battle the State of Alabama Appeals Court ruled that the confiscation of $52,560 from Juan Manuel Martinez-Camacho was not supported by evidence presented by the state of Alabama.  The court reversed the decision of a trial court that had found for the state because “Comacho failed to show that the money was not derived from proceeds obtained directly or indirectly from violation of any law of this state concerning controlled substances.”  In other words, Comacho did not prove his innocence.  The court of appeals decision stated:

We find our precedents sufficiently clear that, under such circumstances, the state failed to present evidence necessary to support a finding that $52, 560 was furnished or intended to be furnished by any person in exchange for a controlled substance in violation of any law of this state.”

The evidence the state presented to support the initial seizure was based on a positive hit from a drug sniffing dog yet no drugs were ever found on Comacho or in the vehicle.  In his testimony Officer Autery stated repeatedly that he relied on his “training and years of experience in criminal drug interdiction.” to determine that the money was obtained from drug sales.

So the initial seizure of the money was based on a positive reaction from a drug sniffing dog, no drugs were found, a lower court sided with the state because Camocho couldn’t prove his innocence, the officer involved didn’t rely on any evidence but on his years of experience, it took 2 years and an appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court for Camocho to get his money back.  Civil asset forfeiture needs to be ended, it is just a license to steal.

[Clapping Hands Emoji] This Is What Gun Control Looks Like [Clapping Hands Emoji]

A totalitarian police state for black people — and everyone else — on gun possession charges.

Think a liberal or progressive is capable of figuring out that laws aren’t magic wishes, and that instead have to be enforced by cops, prosecutors and judges — and that it might not be worth it? I guess not.

According to 12up: “One has to hate that a father is being taken away from his family and placed behind bars, but the punishment does fit the crime — despite what Telfair’s jarring pleas might suggest.”

This Isn’t Going To Fit The Current Narrative

More calls for gun control after Philadelphia standoff with police but this man was a convicted felon.  What specific laws could have stopped him since he was apparently undeterred by laws we currently have – confiscation, ending all gun sales, tougher sentencing laws?  Give us some specifics – what laws should be passed Mayor Kenny?

“Our officers deserve to be protected and they don’t deserve to be shot at by a guy for hours with an unlimited supply of weapons and an unlimited supply of bullets. It’s disgusting and we have to do something about it,” Mayor Jim Kenney told reporters.

Police sources identified the gunman in a standoff at a Tioga apartment building that left six police officers injured as Maurice Hill, 36, a Philadelphia man with a lengthy history of gun convictions and of resisting attempts to bring him to justice.
