The New York Times reports Israel attacked the largest hospital in Gaza in hopes the raid would cause Hamas to relent and accept a hostage deal on terms proposed by Tel Aviv. An Israeli official said that if Hamas accepts the agreement, Tel Aviv will resume the war in Gaza after the exchange of captives.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) issued a report explaining that the Israeli fuel embargo of Gaza will cause a near-total blackout of communications in Gaza. The group warned that the isolation could be used to cover up atrocities. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said there is a need to investigate “extremely serious allegations of multiple and profound breaches” of humanitarian law in Gaza.

The UN Security Council passed a resolution on Wednesday that called for a temporary pause to the fighting in Gaza. Tel Aviv said the call for a short peace was a decision “disconnected from reality and holds no significance.”
