Episode 231: ‘Stateless’ Documentarian Todd Schramke, on Filming in ‘Lawless’ Acapulco

48 Minutes

Some Strong Language

Todd Schramke, along with his partner Kim Kylland, are the producers of the documentary Stateless, which was mentioned on Episode 224 of this podcast in which Thaddeus Russell gave us an account of his interview with Lily Forester after the murder of her partner, John Galton, in Acapulco.

Todd wanted to come on to clear up some “errors” he saw in Thad’s detailing of the events.

A discussion is had about the documentary itself and its genesis, and we get into a lot about what the community in Acapulco is like.

Some Strong Language

Pete invited Iraq/Afghanistan War Vet, and former Border Patrol Agent Joshua Childress to come on the show.

After coming home from the wars, Joshua joined the southern Border Patrol. After hearing podcasts like Thaddeus Russell’s and Brett Veinotte’s, and reading Scott Horton’s ‘Fool’s Errand,’ Joshua decided to leave the border patrol.

Joshua talks about a multitude of issues but Pete concentrates on the mindset of an order taker, and an order giver.

Insubordinate Gen. Votel Denounces Afghan Withdrawal Plans

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty:

U.S. General: Current Conditions ‘Don’t Merit’ Troop Withdrawal From Afghanistan

U.S. Army General Joseph Votel, head of the U.S. Central Command, has said that the current political situation in Afghanistan and the status of negotiations with the Taliban currently under way “don’t merit” a troop withdrawal, despite President Donald Trump’s goal of a drawdown.

“These decisions have to be based more on conditions than specific times” and must “pivot off political progress,” Votel said during a House Armed Services Committee hearing in Washington on March 7.

Didn’t Votel get the memo? The plan is already to stay forever.

Sanders Defends Omar from ‘Anti-Semitic’ Smears

Jewish Democratic Party Presidential Frontrunner Bernie Sanders:

“Anti-Semitism is a hateful and dangerous ideology which must be vigorously opposed in the United States and around the world. We must not, however, equate anti-Semitism with legitimate criticism of the right-wing, Netanyahu government in Israel. Rather, we must develop an even-handed Middle East policy which brings Israelis and Palestinians together for a lasting peace,” the Hill reported.

“What I fear is going on in the House now is an effort to target Congresswoman Omar as a way of stifling that debate. That’s wrong.”
