COI #278: George W. Bush Finally Says Something True About Iraq

coi278

On COI #278, Kyle Anzalone and Connor Freeman cover former President George W. Bush’s viral confession- by-gaffe to war crimes in Iraq, President Joe Biden’s resistance to Kiev’s demands for long range rocket launchers, U.S./Israeli war drills aimed at Tehran, and the latest news on the Iran nuclear deal. Kyle and Connor watch and discuss Bush’s Freudian slip rapidly making the rounds where he is giving a speech denouncing an illegal, brutal, unprovoked war in Iraq when he meant to say Ukraine. Bush was trying to paint Russian President Vladimir Putin as the ultimate mass murderer, Hitler...

The Anti-Subjectivist Manifesto: The Case for Consent

blowback

Preface   “It is not difficult to avoid death, gentlemen; it is much more difficult to avoid wickedness, for it runs faster than death.” - Socrates, Apology            The nature of the manifesto is to inform others. To profess some great insight, motivation, or cause, in a manner that is both poignant and powerful. Our goal with this piece is to do just that, for an ethical theory known as “Anti-Subjectivism”, a theory that not only offers a normative framework for determining the “rightness” or “wrongness” of a given set of actions, but also a meta-ethical logic...

3/31/22 Lyle Goldstein: This War Is a Disaster for Russia, Ukraine and the Entire World

Download Episode. Scott talks with Lyle Goldstein about the war in Ukraine. Although Goldstein did expect some kind of Russian invasion to take place, he’s been surprised by the difficulty Russia has faced on a number of fronts. Scott and Goldstein discuss a number of theories and takes they’ve been reading across the media landscape. Among the topics covered are the global dangers posed by reductions in Ukrainian farming, Washington’s alleged interest in supporting a long-term insurgency, and the intentional drought in Crimea— which Goldstein says is an often omitted reason behind the...

Announcing the Institute’s New Managing Editor: Keith Knight

As we kick off our Spring funddrive, I figure now is a good time to announce the promotion of our great colleague Keith Knight to managing editor of the Libertarian Institute. I have also added my good friends and associates Will Porter and Connor Freeman to the team. They are both hardcore...

How We Incentivize Peace in the World

pexels tom fisk 2226458 (1)

If you are reading this, there’s a good chance you are one of the people in the world that wants to see all foreign militaries go home and for governments to focus on their own issues rather than intervening in other countries. Maybe you post news stories on Facebook or other social media outlets to try to raise awareness to the cause. I’m going to tell you that even if the tide turns in our favor and we pressure our government to bring the troops home, or a bankruptcy forces this to happen, unless a plan is put in place to ever-incentivize it to stay that way, eventually the forces of...

No Radiation Leaks After Fighting at Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant

nuclear power plant cooling tower power plant energy

Fighting has erupted on the grounds of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant – the largest of its kind in Europe – with Kiev accusing Russian forces of setting fire to a building on the site with artillery blasts before they seized the facility. Radiation in the area remains at normal levels, officials say. Citing Ukrainian authorities, the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a press release on Thursday noting that Russian tanks and infantry had broken through a line of defense outside the town of Enerhodar, which encompasses the nuclear site, and were advancing on...

Demonizing Those Who Drive for Freedom

pexels photoscom 93398

The denigration of the Canadian trucker protest convoy exemplifies how freedom is now the biggest villain of the COVID-19 pandemic. A Washington Post cartoonist portrayed the trucker convoy as “fascism” incarnate while another Post column derided the “toxic ‘Freedom Convoy.’” Anyone who resists any government command is apparently now a public enemy. The trucker protest was spurred by the Canadian government’s sweeping COVID vaccine mandate. Many truckers believe the risks of the vaccine outweigh the benefit and, more importantly, that they have the right to control their own bodies....

COI #226: Biden Makes Putin an Offer

coi226

On COI #226, Kyle Anzalone breaks down Biden’s proposal to Putin to deescalate the tensions over Ukraine. The proposal was in the U.S. letter delivered to Russia. The US requested the letter remain private but it was leaked to the Spanish press. Biden seems to be willing to offer discussion on the U.S. missiles placed in Eastern Europe. While Biden remains unwilling to negotiate on Ukraine’s NATO membership, a deal resembling the INF treaty could significantly reduce U.S.-Russia tensions. Kyle discusses a recent accusation by the White House that Senator Josh Hawley is spreading Russian...

The ‘Zero COVID’ Strategy Was a Losing Bet From the Start

pexels cottonbro 3951615

The Chinese regime is doubling down in its “zero COVID” strategy. In recent weeks, new covid cases have been detected in several cities. In a world of the more-contagious omicron variant, this is to be expected. But what has been the Chinese state’s response? It’s more of the same. Lockdowns, travel suspensions, and more. NBC reports: Tianjin, which detected China's first community spread of Omicron on Saturday, is rolling out a second round of mass testing on its 14 million residents on Wednesday…The outbreak has already spread to Anyang, a city in Henan province some 300 miles (482...

Novak Djokovic Is All of Our Future

8155421947 7bfab16f40 c

When I’ve talked in the past about the patchwork tyranny post COVID-9/11, I had more mundane things in mind than the fate of a major tennis star. Novak Djokovic was deported from Australia on Sunday after his appeal to reinstate his visa failed. And it failed not for health reasons but for political ones. To me, the kinds of terrible rules put in place for ‘public safety’ always conjure up images of casual oppression. Endless videos of pathetic public servants intimidating priests in churches or police arresting pub owners for serving willing patrons. But it goes far deeper than that....
