I Can’t Believe You Send Your Children to Government School

Why do you people hire the Nazi Gestapo to teach your kids how to read and write? I know, it’s because you’re a ridiculous stupid idiot because you went to government school too.

Don’t you know there’s libraries and the internet and stuff?

Teacher at Grand Mountain School in Colorado Springs calls the police on a young black boy for having a toy Nerf™ gun at home in a Zoom video classroom.

He didn’t point it at anyone. He didn’t threaten anyone. Just picked it up for a second.

The cops came right out to the boy’s home and threatened him with time in prison. Good thing they didn’t just blow the kid’s head off for him.

The cowards at KDVR TV refused to print the name of the disgusting person who would dare to inflict deadly force on her own student, a 12-year-old. But someone should find out her name and paste her picture and make her a famous public person for daring to cross this line.

Trump accuses Pentagon leaders of wanting to ‘fight wars’ to make defense companies rich

Jeff Schogol in Task and Purpose:

President Donald Trump blasted the Pentagon’s leadership on Monday for allegedly caring about defense industry more than U.S. service members.

“I’m not saying the military’s in love with me – the soldiers are,” the president said at a White House news conference. “The top people in the Pentagon probably aren’t because they want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes and make everything else stay happy.”

Trump also said that his desire to withdraw all U.S. troops from Syria now that the Islamic State no longer holds any territory has put him at odds with military leaders.

“I said: That’s good; let’s bring our soldiers back home,” Trump said. “Some people don’t like to come home. Some people like to continue to spend money.”

Ron Paul Sits Down with Matt Kibbe for Longform Interview on Life & Liberty

In interviews, Ron Paul tends mainly to be asked about events of the day. These often-short interviews help Paul advance his goal of communicating the ideas of liberty. It is interesting and illuminating in a different way when Paul on occasion takes part in longer, in-depth interviews focused largely on himself and his relationship to libertarianism.

A new interview of Paul by host Matt Kibbe at Kibbe on Liberty is such an in-depth interview.

Much of the interview is focused on Paul’s life and its relation to libertarianism. The interview starts with Paul’s learning about Austrian economics and libertarian ideas through reading and through discussions with individuals including Hans Sennholz. The interview then deals with Paul being a premier communicator of libertarian ideas via activities including campaigning for and serving in the United States House of Representatives, running for president, and hosting the Ron Paul Liberty Report.

Rest In Peace Kevin Zeese

The great peace activist and writer Kevin Zeese died this morning. He apparently had a heart attack last night.

This is a terrible loss for our movement.

I must have interviewed him 25 times or so over the years. Here’s his Antiwar.com archive too.

Kevin was a good man.

Progress In Afghanistan Peace Talks

The process has been slow and their is a long road ahead, but this is a major step towards peace in Afghanistan.

ISLAMABAD — Taliban officials say a senior delegation returned early Saturday to Qatar, paving the way for the start of peace talks with the Afghan government that are expected to take place in the tiny Gulf state.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The delayed negotiations are the second, critical part to a peace deal the U.S. signed with the Taliban in February in Doha.

The Taliban delegation’s arrival in Qatar, where the group keeps its political office, came as a top Afghan government body blamed the militants for delays in starting talks.

In a tweet Saturday, the spokesman for Kabul’s High Council for National Reconciliation, Faraidoon Khwazoon, said the government was ready to start direct negotiations.

“The process of releasing the prisoners is over and there is no excuse for delaying the talks, but the Taliban are still not ready to take part in the talks,” he said, without further elaboration.

In a surprise late night Saturday tweet, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed announced a shakeup in the Taliban negotiation team. The Taliban’s Chief Justice Abdul Hakim has been named the lead negotiator replacing Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, who will be deputy negotiator. The appointment of Hakim, who is close to the Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhunzada, brings the Taliban’s negotiating team to 21. There was no explanation for the sudden changes.

Complying with Mandates

It’s utterly conceivable that the government might mandate that we do (or not do) what we already ought (or ought not) to do, seeing as how social animals owe things to each other. In such cases, refusing to engage (or abstaining from engaging) in the mandated (or forbidden) behavior because the government has mandated (or forbidden) it is just wrong, edgy individualist rationalizations notwithstanding. Needless to say, I should have started this post with “Needless to say….”
