On FPF #255, I discuss two articles by The Weekly Standard Editorial Board. The first article calls for the US to return to the Bush Doctrine. The editors believe that the US needs to very hawkish policy with Iran. The second article celebrates Trump's reversal on his desire to remove troops from Syria. The writers suggest an important role for the US troops in Syria is to combat Iran. I argue a return to the Bush Doctrine would be a disaster and US troops should return home from Syria. Foreign Policy Focus #128 – The Execution of Daniel Shaver
On FPF #128, I discuss the execution of Daniel Shaver by police officer Phillip Brailsford. The shooting occurred in January 2016 and Brailsford has been acquitted by a jury of all charges. A judge finally allowed the body cam footage to the public. I react to the video and give some analysis. I also explain how America's are not holding out military and police to a high enough moral standard. Link to...
Fists Can’t Fight Nuclear Weapons
"Peace through strength". It wasn't true for Hitler, was it? "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." Should we concede the necessity of war because "people are violent and vicious"? Our standard of living depends on a level of economic development that doesn't countenance barroom passions. We've weaved systems that work despite human stupidity, that's the definition of development. That's what wealth and division of labor, law and so forth accomplish. Likewise, war has been industrialized. You can't just go brawl...
4/7/17 Jeffrey Carr on the pushback against CrowdStrike’s claims of Russian election hacking
Jeffrey Carr, an international cybersecurity consultant, discusses the low evidentiary standard the US government and media has used to make very serious accusations about Russian hacking of Ukrainian military software and, by extension, the DNC emails. Carr says that CrowdStrike's cybersecurity report - the basis for all these accusations - is the worst he has ever read.
LMPD Shooting Probe Called ‘Inherently Flawed’
Here's an idea who's time has come. The daughters of an elderly, deaf man who was shot to death by cops for holding a tree saw allege that the local District Attorney's office is "inherently" incapable of performing an honest investigation into the killing because they have a conflict of interest: they have to keep working with these same cops to prosecute cases in the future. Why is it not standard in every state in the Union that a DA's office from another county or district is in charge of such things? It should...
Liberty Minute 1/2/2015
In this episode of Will Grigg's Liberty Minute... A shooting that would send a civilian to prison is a slap on the wrist for Police due to "Qualified Immunity". Shouldn't the protectors of our community be held to a higher standard? https://dissentradio.com/radio/libertyminute/LibMin_010215.mp3
