North Korea Tests New ‘Tactical Guided Weapon’ as US, South Korea Set to Begin Joint War Games

nk missile tests 4.17.2022

North Korea fired two missiles it claims are "new-type tactical guided weapons." The test comes a day before the US and South Korea kick off joint war games.  Bloomberg reported a message from the South Korean military claiming the two missiles traveled about 60 miles. Joseph Dempsey, a research associate at International Institute for Strategic Studies, said, “the ‘new tactical guided weapon’ outwardly resembles their KN-23 and KN-23 [short-range ballistic missile]. The use of a wheeled quad launcher indicates a smaller, lighter and likely shorter-range missile.” North Korean media KCNA...

12/22/21 Gareth Porter on Iran and Afghanistan

Scott celebrates eleven years on the radio by interviewing Gareth Porter about Biden’s first year in office. They discuss the negotiations between the Administration and Iran over a return to the JCPOA. Despite many crossovers with the team that reached an agreement with Iran back in the Obama years, Biden’s people appear set on squeezing more concessions out of the Iranians. But Porter points out that, as he had predicted, the U.S. reluctance to return to the deal led to hardliner victories in Iran’s last elections. But even with a more anti-American regime, Porter sees no evidence...

3/18/21 Daryl Kimball: Enough Already, No New ICBMs

Daryl Kimball talks about the need to limit the creation and proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world. Today, says Kimball, the U.S. is heading in the wrong direction: a $200 billion plan is in the works to update and expand America's nuclear arsenal, even though, according to Kimball and all reasonable observers, we already have way more nukes than anyone needs. Most disinterested experts agree that a small arsenal is more than enough to deter other nuclear-armed countries, and that the kind of stockpiles the U.S. and Russia have don't make anybody any safer. In fact, it greatly...

12/6/19 Tom Collina on America’s Dangerous ‘Nuclear Sponge’

Tom Collina tells Scott about the "nuclear sponge", a collection of land-based nuclear weapons in America's upper midwest, whose real purpose is just to absorb the strikes of a nuclear attack by a hostile power rather than to actually be used in an attack of their own, which would most likely be done by submarine. Needless to say this is utterly crazy. Collina reminds us that there are enough nukes between just the U.S. and Russia to destroy the world's population centers many times over, not to mention the nuclear winter that would follow and could wipe out almost all life on the planet....

Ayatollah Khamenei: Nukes Are Haram

We already know that's been the edict in Iran since his predecessor, Ayatollah Khomeini, banned pursuit of nuclear weapons back in the 1980s. But here Khamenei is repeating it, again. “Building and stockpiling nuclear bombs is wrong and using it is haram (religiously forbidden) ... Although we have nuclear technology, Iran has firmly avoided it.” Now, Horton's law says he must be lying since he's a politician saying something good, however, in this case, the actual behavior of the Iranian government this whole time has been consistent with creating a latent deterrent at worst, and mostly...

Is Iran Building Nukes?

On FPF #372, I discuss the mainstream reaction to Iran's small increase in uranium enrichment. Many are pushing the false claim that Iran is now breaking the nuclear deal and is on the path to building a bomb, but I explain what is actually happening with the country's civilian nuclear energy program. The US already violated the nuclear pact by withdrawing from the agreement and reimposing sanctions on Iran. The US uses the SWIFT payment system to keep adversaries in line. Mike Maharrey of the Tenth Amendment Center has done hard work to expose the little known international financial...

Three Cheers For North Korea Talks!

At the Libertarian Institute, we whole-heartedly support Presidents Trump, Moon and Kim's efforts to finally, officially end the Korean War and end the threat of violent hostilities between our countries. The USA has everything in the world to give, nothing to lose and really no right to demand a thing in the first place. If a new peaceful relationship can be created, that could be a possible step toward their abandoning of nuclear weapons. But either way, what matters is that they must be deprived of any motive to use them or even keep them in the long term. It's all the American...

FPF #312 – Nukes & Regime Change guest Scott Horton

Scott Horton returns to the Foreign Policy Focus podcast to talk about nukes, regime change, and ending the war in Afghanistan. Scott breaks down the US effort to replace Maduro as president of Venezuela and the likelihood of a US regime change effort in Iran. He discusses how developing low yield nukes and leaving the INF Treaty increases the risk of nuclear weapons being used. We also cover the potential withdraw of US troops from Afghanistan Scott Horton is the Managing Director of The Libertarian Institute, Editorial Director at AntiWar.com, and host of the Scott Horton Show. Scott is...

FPF #296 – Crickets!

On FPF #296, I explain how crickets caused the US to withdraw the majority of their diplomatic envoy to Cuba. The US alleged sonic weapons being used against US diplomats in Cuba. The US media even speculated that Russia was involved with the use of sonic weapons against diplomats. Scientific testing now shows the noise was caused by crickets. I examine how the allegations impacted US policy towards Cuba and how this event exemplifies the shortcomings of the US media.  Links FPF #263 - Nukes Moon of Alabama on the cricket attack Philip Giraldi - Trump 2019 Foreign...

Substantive Due Process
